Audio tag editor for MP3 and M4A files, featuring a minimalistic user interface and some useful features, such as batch renaming and incremental track numbering #Tag Editor #ID3 Editor #Metadata Editor #Tag #ID3 #Metadata
Storing music locally isn’t a thing of the past yet, and one of the drawbacks of not relying on streaming services is that you need to personally make sure audio files are properly tagged.
You can find lots of apps that will get the job done, some very minimalistic, and others made for organizing huge collections of albums. TuneTag is one of the former, ideally suited for managing a single album at a time.
TuneTag is far from the most feature-rich app of its kind. You can load files or folders with drag and drop, and then begin tweaking their metadata one by one. Quick Look can be used to preview songs while you go through them.
Columns show you which tags are missing, and you can edit them from the right-hand sidebar. Unfortunately, it can be hard to tell where the input fields are, and only a limited number of tags can be edited.
If a song lacks album art, you can add an image stored locally. You can also remove art or save it locally in a preset format.
While most edits will be made individually, there are a few actions that can be performed with multiple files in mind. For instance, removing unsupported tags, or just deleting all traces of metadata from imported audio files.
Assuming your tracks already have up-to-date metadata, you can use it to quickly rename all loaded files based on these tags, via a user-defined scheme. Finally, you can increment track numbers if your files are in the right order.
For a smaller music collection, TuneTag will be quite suitable, especially if you don’t intend to add every single type of audio tag supported by MP3 and M4A files. The app is quite easy to use, though the visibility of the input fields could be improved.
