2016 MacBook Pro models come with a built-in Touch Bar that replaces the traditional function keys. The area’s functionality and buttons change based on the currently selected app, which gives room to many customizations.

Touch Bar Piano is a small macOS utility that takes advantage of what the Touch Bar has to offer and enables you to play the piano and other key controlled instruments from the top of your keyboard.

Worth mentioning is that Touch Bar Piano is intended to work only with the 2016 MacBook Pro model, or later models that are also Touch Bar enabled. Even though the utility will run on older Mac models, you cannot use its functionalities.

As far as working with the application goes, this proves to be quite intuitive: just launch the application, make sure it is selected, and you will see the custom control buttons and the piano keyboard in your Touch Bar.

Touch Bar Piano also comes with a simple Options panel where you get to adjust certain details related to the app’s performance before heading to the Touch Bar. Here you can change the octave level and the touch area size for the black keys.

You can decide if the back keys should be included in the glissando or the instrument you want to be playing.

Touch Bar Piano comes with presets for various types of piano models, but you can also opt for a harpsichord, celesta, music box, accordion, and so on (the list is quite exhaustive).

Bottom line, Touch Bar Piano is a small yet interesting application that makes use of the newly released Touch Bar technology. If you don't have a Touch Bar enabled device, you can try the app by using the Touché simulator.
