Silicio For Mac

Silicio is a useful app that aims to improve your music listening experience by making it a lot easier to control songs being played in Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, Deezer or Vox.

It consists of a mini-player that stays on your desktop, displays cover art and offers some basic controls, as well as a Notification Center widget that lets you see what is playing at all times.

As long as one of the supported music apps is installed on your Mac, all you need to do is launch Silicio and play a song. It will be detected automatically, but you can also select the source yourself.

If you use more than one music service on a regular basis, Silicio is great for quickly alternating between them. For example, you can listen to a song in Music, stop playback and then switch to another one in Spotify with a couple of mouse clicks.

The mini-player shows cover art for the current song, and hovering over it with the mouse pointer causes the track’s details to be displayed, along with the play/pause and skip controls.

There are a multitude of settings that can be configured regarding the player’s appearance and behavior. You can choose between three window sizes, lock its position on the desktop, keep it on top of all other applications and even have it hide automatically when no active players are found.

Aside from the mini-player, Silicio installs a Notification Center widget that provides roughly the same functionality. The app can be displayed in your Dock and/or menu bar as well, but you can also remove all these icons and manage your music from the mini-player or the widget.

Silicio is a wonderful app that does pretty much everything right, as it is very easy to use, unobtrusive and fully configurable. If you need a simple way to play music from multiple services on your Mac, you need not look any further.
