Drum Keys aims to be the go-to OS X application for everyone in need of a simple and highly customizable keyboard-based drum utility. Unfortunately, besides allowing you to playing various drum sounds and choosing which key plays which sound, Drum Keys does not offer you anything else.

Thus, once you set it up on your Mac, you can go ahead and play around with your keyboard or your mouse to create your own drum track. The problem is that the Drum Keys app does not feature a way to record your drumming sessions or some sort of integration with a digital audio workstation like Apple’s GarageBand or Logic Pro.

As a result, the only thing you can do with Drum Keys after you install it on your Mac is to play around. Fortunately, once you have your drum-based sound keyboard setup, the app will remember your settings between sessions, therefore you will be able to pick up playing right away.

Drum Keys enables you to choose between 61 different drum instrument sounds for each key on your keyboard and it also makes it possible to rapidly reset your configuration with a simple mouse click on the “Reset keys” button, in the lower right side corner of the app’s interface.

While configuring the keyboard, Drum Keys will mark all unassigned keys with an asterisk so that, once you decide to add another drum sound to your config, you don’t have to waste time looking for an empty slot.
