First we hear that iPhone users are brainwashed and that the Android user base is more technically savvy, now a new study aims to prove the exact opposite. According to online advertising network Chitika, the iPhone user base is more educated than the Android camp.

Chitika Insights, the firm’s analytics department, has released this comprehensive infographic according to which there’s a direct correlation between education level, population density, and iPhone ownership. Basically, if you live in a place where college graduation is ubiquitous, chances are you’ll see a lot more iPhone owners than Android users.

“Our analysis does point towards state-level evidence on the factors affecting iPhone usage rates. iPhone usage shares are positively correlated with level of education and population density at the state-level,” Chitika says.

Not surprisingly, the data also showed that the areas where more rich people lived had the highest rate of iPhones. However, because of the high correlation in income and education level was somewhat redundant, this was not taken into account.

The study is by no means scientific, and this finding is actually one of the least important things noted in Chitika’s whitepaper. The real purpose of the research was to gauge the range of usage rates between different states, so that marketers can come up with profitable regional strategies. Which is basically what Chitika does for a living.
