If Apple keeps doing business with Corning for its future iPhones, and there’s no indication it won’t, the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 6 could employ the company’s new “Lotus XT” glass.

Corning describes its new glass as suitable for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays, as well as for liquid crystal displays (LCD) “that use either low-temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) or oxide thin-film transistor (TFT) backplanes.”

The material is both energy-efficient and perfect for fast response times, and bright picture – an “immersive display,” in short.

Corning also said its new “Lotus XT Glass” offers the advantages of its proprietary fusion process and meets “the stringent cost requirements of the mobile device and IT display market,” which Apple is most famous for.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 5S later this year, and the iPhone 6 in 2014.
