Company may get ‘run over’ by competition if the next iPhone doesn’t do LTE/4G

Tommy Ljunggren, senior vice president of wireless operator TeliaSonera, has shared some interesting thoughts with the people at Telecoms.com about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5, mainly about the 4G/LTE wireless standard that Cupertino hasn’t embraced yet.

The Swedish executive told the publication “If you asked me two years ago I would have said Apple would be very important.”

“But now it will be a bad mistake not to include LTE in the iPhone 5 as otherwise they will really be run over by the others. Apple are not unique enough and there is disappointment over the 4S – it was too small step for them.”

Ljunggren would better hope Apple even looks their way next year. These words may have hurt the operator’s chances of getting a contract signed on carrying the fifth-generation model.
