Beats iPhone 4S by quite a margin, according to an Apple pundit

Daring Fireball’s John Gruber is happy to report that the iPhone 5 Apple gave him to review takes amazing photos in low-light conditions – far better than his iPhone 4S.

Check out the photo comparison above. That’s Mr. Gruber’s test to demonstrate the iPhone 5’s ability to squeeze a tremendous amount of detail from a poorly lit area on his desk, seemingly guarded by the brave Han Solo.

The iPhone 5 camera boasts the same 8-megapixel sensor as the iPhone 4S. However, the iPhone 5’s optics have been improved with a sapphire lens, 40 percent faster photo capture, improved noise reduction and last but not least, “better low-light performance,” according to the tech-specs page.

While Gruber’s demo is certainly not scientific, the differences are clear enough to give you an idea of how much better your photos will look when taken with the iPhone 5.
