Apple strives to cut the wires with every new generation of devices, but the next-generation iPhone will still require one. The dock connector is said to have shrunk to 9 pins with a micro USB style design. The cable required to tether the phone to a computer and / or charger has now been leaked.

Posted on Twitter by a representative of Veister.com, the cable depicted above is said to be “for iPhone 5.” While it could easily be a fake, the hardware certainly seems to fit the iPhone 5 dock connector leaked in various photos in the past few weeks.

Apple is said to be expanding this new specification across its entire lineup of iDevices, including the iPod nano, which should see a refresh relatively soon. A so-called iPad mini is also on the launch pad, rumors say, boasting an 8-inch display.
