The bill of materials for Apple’s latest handset, the iPhone 4S, is estimated at $203 according to UBM TechInsights, a provider of information services, consulting, and management software.

The $203 price includes an estimated cost of $26 for the A5 processor that Apple heavily advertises for the handset. The Retina display alone adds another $31 to the bill. Their full teardown can be found here.

“What we were surprised with was how many other chips on the iPhone were also found on the iPad,” said the firm. “Amongst them was a commonality in the choice of memory (both using the same Intel and Samsung packages) and the use of the same GPS and Bluetooth receivers from Broadcom.”

UBM TechInsights believes that the iPhone 4S will bring profit margins similar to those generated by previous iPhone models.
