Apple is planning to release a Pro version of its popular tablet computer, with a targeted launch date around the third quarter of 2014, according to market sources.

Citing these unnamed sources who appear to be knowledgeable of the company’s short-term plans, DigiTimes reports that “Apple is likely to release a 12.9-inch model by the end of the third quarter at the earliest.”

At the same time, the Cupertino giant reportedly “has asked its production partners and component suppliers to develop new models of 7.9- and 9.7-inch tablets,” the same sources said.

The iPad Pro, as journalists have come to name it, is supposed to be geared towards production environments, enterprises, and education. The device would obviously come with a higher price, but also much more advanced features, not to mention expanded usage scenarios thanks to the increased screen real estate.
