Apple is reportedly testing as many as five different prototypes boasting big screens

A report from China claims that Apple has begun testing iPads with 12.9-inch displays sporting 2K resolutions, with plans to debut one such tablet in the first half of 2014.

According to PadNews (citing people familiar with Apple’s plans), Foxconn will be tasked with building one of five prototyped iPads boasting a 13-inch display and a 2K resolution.

Apple even has plans to make a 4K model down the line, according to the same report. The first iPad 6 would hit stores in April, going by the Chinese publication. The upgraded 4K-enabled model would arrive around October, it says.

I wouldn’t hold my breath for this report to materialize 100%, but it has become increasingly apparent that Apple is indeed fiddling with the idea of launching an “iPad Maxi,” as some rumorists have called it.
