The new iPad seems to be more damageable than its predecessor

SquareTrade, the company that provides “warranty that makes sense” has conducted a drop-test on the new Apple iPad to find that it damages more easily, and far more severe than its predecessor.

In the footage embedded above, SquareTrade took two iPads out in the open air - one iPad 2 and one iPad 3 (aka “the new iPad”). They conducted a series of drop tests on each one, including from waist height, and from shoulder height, facing upwards and downwards.

The individual results weren’t all that surprising. The two tablets’ glass digitizers were almost completely shattered, albeit the iPads still appeared to operate normally.

However, the new-generation iPad’s screen was substantially more damaged than the display on the iPad 2. This is mainly because of the added weight from the larger battery.
