Hacking duo Joe Brown and Sky Zangas have released a modified carrier update for Verizon users wielding iPhones and cellular iPads to increase their data speeds.

The hack enables 1x Advanced and EVDO Rev. B on the iPhone 5, as well as on cellular versions of the iPad 3, iPad 4, and iPad mini. It also enhances LTE data speeds.

According to the hackers, “Though Verizon is limited to EVDO Rev. A, the device itself becomes more open to an increased amount of bandwidth thus allowing for better throughput of data and data connection.”

The geeks also note that, in order to limit users to a certain bandwidth on 3G and LTE, they’ve put throttling code in their hack. On the upside, users will have “a better opportunity for some faster speeds,” as the hackers put it.

“This won’t increase signal so don’t expect it to like the AT&T version of this hack,” the duo warns.
