The technically savvy bunch at iFixit embarked on a plane this week and headed to Melbourne, Australia. Can you guess why?

As a fan of the repair shop and their work, you’ve probably figured it out already. They’ve flown there because it’s already tomorrow in Australia (March 16th), which means Apple’s iPad is up for grabs there.

It’ll soon be available in the rest of the world too, but they had itchy teardown fingers. They reportedly improvised an “operating table” in their hotel room and they plan to perform the surgery on location. Keep an eye out on their Twitter stream for the first updates.

Apple has already confirmed pretty much everything there is to know about the third-generation tablet device, but if you’re more into learning what every chip does and where it was sourced from, iFixit will have that information ready for you in the coming hours.
