Over half a million Mac owners have downloaded Apple’s new iBooks Author application from the Mac App Store, and three million iOS customers have downloaded the new iTunes U from iTunes, according to Apple.

The company’s CFO, Peter Oppenheimer, and CEO Tim Cook yesterday revealed that Apple was on a rampage, having sold 37.04 million iPhones in its first fiscal quarter of 2012, 15.43 million iPads, and 5.2 million Macs.

The company recently announced new tools for education, including iBooks 2 with interactive textbook support, iBooks Author - the tool used to create the textbooks themselves, and iTunes U - which lets you teach and take entire courses on your iPad.

The last two have recorded impressive download figures, according to Apple. iBooks Author has been downloaded 600,000 times, and iTunes U no less than 3 million, the company said during yesterday’s call.
