Apple announces milestone for its e-reading app for iOS devices

Available on iOS and desktop computers through iTunes, Apple’s iBookstore is now available in 155 countries, including Japan. With this recent announcement, the Cupertino tech giant also confirmed a milestone for downloads.

According to Apple’s press statement announcing the iBookstore for Japan, customers worldwide have downloaded the iBooks app 130 million times.

The press release reads (emphasis ours), “The iBookstore is available in 51 countries and offers hundreds of categories including cookbooks, history books, biographies, picture books and children’s books with free books available in 155 countries. The iBooks app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has been downloaded 130 million times worldwide.”

Updated to version 3.1 yesterday, iBooks now includes improvements for reading Asian language books, including Japanese. iBooks is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and requires iOS 5.0 or later.
