First release candidate adds The Old Reader () as a supported OpenReader provider

The Vienna Team today rolled out the first release candidate of its popular open source RSS app with the same name, delivering a new range of improvements and fixes. The team hasn’t set a launch date for the final build, but we should expect it to emerge any day now.

An open source RSS reader with support for RSS/Atom feeds, Vienna does article storage and management via an SQLite database coded in Objective-C and Cocoa. Version 3.0.0 RC1 is actually the first solid sign in years that development is concluding with the release of a stable/final build of the application.

Posted earlier today, RC1 adds The Old Reader () as a supported OpenReader provider, improves InoReader support (with the team mentioning that it handles homepage and icons), improves the Unified layout and several accessibility options, fixes credentials input for feeds requiring authentication, addresses issues with plugins, and improves the UI’s German translation.

As noted above, Vienna 3.0.0 can turn stable any day now, but at the rate things have progressed in the beta period, we could well see a couple more RCs rolled out before everything is said and done. Download Vienna from Softpedia today (3.0.0 RC and 2.6.0/2.5.0 Stable versions available).
