Yesterday, mobile phone carrier Verizon announced its financial results for the second quarter of the year, an unveiled iPhone sales of 2.7 million units for the time frame.

During the conference call following the announcement, Verizon CFO Fran Shammo reportedly let slip that the next iPhone (iPhone 5, allegedly) might be coming in the fourth quarter of the year.

When asked what might have held customers from upgrades in Q2, he replied pointing at rumors regarding a “new phone coming out there in the fourth quarter,” The Verge reports.

While he might have been referring to new Nexus devices, which Google and its partners are rumored to launch in October or November, a possible hint at iPhone 5 is not far-fetched either.

Previous reports did suggest that Apple might launch the handset sometime in September, and a fourth-quarter availability would very well be in the books.
