Valve has released a new version of the Steam client for Mac users, addressing some annoying bugs related to startup, the automatic update mechanism, and a crash while installing games.

The new client build was released for both the Steam Client Beta and the standard Steam Client on the Mac.

The issue that caused people to get stuck in “Checking for updates…” has been addressed, according to Valve. A startup crash when launching Steam is also fixed, and the same goes for a crash that occurred when installing new games.

If you’re an avid fan of games played through Steam, I don’t have to tell you how important this update is. Simply launch the client on your Mac and proceed to install it from there. If you don’t have it, get it here.

Here’s a note from the developers to go with it:

“If you are experiencing the first issue, where your client is stuck in ‘Checking for updates…’ and unable to proceed, please re-download Steam from the ‘Install Steam’ link at the top of this website. Replace your existing Steam application with the downloaded copy, and then launch Steam to download the update. You do not need to delete any files.”
