Any apps besides games are productivity titles, like OmniFocus

With Apple’s Best of 2013 list of apps now public, I thought it was high time to make a small observation. Nothing major, but it has to be said nonetheless.

While browsing through the Best of 2013 I immediately noticed that the list is chock-full of games. In fact, around 90 percent of the apps listed there are video games which, admittedly, offer endless fun for users of all ages.

What I also noticed was that, unlike previous years, Apple’s Best of 2013 features little to no utility apps among the most downloaded / top grossing / top rated, however you want to rank them.

Why? That’s a question only Apple can answer with certainty, but I’ll give it a shot. The main reason why people no longer download flashlight and Wi-Fi apps and all that mambo jumbo is because iOS 7 has some of these utilities built inside Control Center and other areas of the operating system. And it could also be the reason why people aren’t so desperate to get a jailbreak these days.
