An image is making the rounds claiming to show Apple’s budget iPhone

A tipster has forwarded us an image which claims to show the budget iPhone rumored to launch later this year.

The leak is admittedly sketchy, but you need to cover all the bases in this line of work. For what it’s worth, our tipster tells us, “The image shows the back of iPhone and it [is] made of glossy plastic,” adding that “The design of the back is similar to that of iPhone 3G.”

The tipster seems to be from Asia, and the picture in question appears to stem from a Chinese source. It also seems to have already been leaked to WeiPhone.com, though it hasn’t yet caught the attention of the media.

Apple is indeed rumored to launch a cheaper iPhone this year, but I doubt it will look like this. Not only is it absurd for Apple to copy a 2008 design, but the device shown in this picture appears to be thicker than most handsets on the market today.
