Qualcomm silicon points to LTE, if anyone needed more confirmation

A leak from Italy seemingly confirms that Apple’s next-generation iPhone is using a next-generation system-on-a-chip (SoC) applications processor – the A6.

Previously rumored to employ the third-gen iPad’s A5X SoC, Apple’s iPhone 5 is using an all-new processor, if this leak from Italy is any indication.

The motherboard housing the precious, Samsung-assembled silicon is also the home of a particularly interesting Qualcomm chip located opposite to where the nano-SIM tray should be.

Labeled “MDM9615M,” this modem has long been rumored to supply LTE networking for the next-generation of iPhones. It seems all but confirmed at this point.

Turned upside down, the logic board shows flash memory from Hynix and other chips from Murata, Skyworks, and Avago. The image in question could well be fake, but all the technical details are consistent with one another. Consistent enough to make this sound like an accurate leak.
