An atmospheric side-scrolling platformer with great graphics and gameplay

As I was browsing through the App Store’s daily bargains, I stumbled across this game called Swordigo, which is free to download for one day. The game normally costs $1.99/€1.79.

The icon looked pretty cool, so did the screenshots, and I decided to download it and give it a try. Two minutes into the thing, I was hooked. If I had Swordigo on my PSP a few years ago (when I used to play games 24/7), I’d have probably taken two days off from work to explore this magical realm of dungeons, towns, treasures, and monsters.

It’s got everything a platformer needs, including the ability to gain experience and level up, find weapons, items, and spells along the way, etc. You travel through forests, caves, and dungeons illuminated by a dynamic lighting system.

The control scheme is ideal, as it involves few buttons and your thumbs rarely cover the on-screen action. Sure I’d prefer to play this one with physical buttons. Who knows, maybe Touch Foo will add controller support in a future update.
