Valve has finally released a Source SDK that works on the Mac, adding support for Virtual Reality via the Oculus Rift. Valve is now using github to host the source code.

The company behind the popular Half Life series says that, in addition to the aforementioned enhancements, the Source SDK 2013 release includes a new license which allows mod authors to share their changes more easily to the development kit.

Hammer and other mod tools ship with their respective games now (instead of shipping as part of the SDK Launcher), while the launcher itself is being terminated.

The games now build and run clients on OS X natively, Valve said. However, Mac developers still have no dedicated servers assigned to them.

Steam Pipe is supported by the sample mods, and running a compatible mod with the -vr command line will enable stereo and head tracking on the Oculus Rift hardware.
