A German blog talking to an Apple engineer reveals that iOS 5.1 will be released shortly after iOS 5.0.2 is launched with a patch for the battery-drain flaw once and for all. The later update will teach Siri new tricks, this person said.

According to the Apple engineer, iOS 5.1 is the update everyone should be excited about. He’s working hard with his teammates to implement some cool new functionality for Siri, the personal assistant launched by Apple in October.

Siri will be able to take a photo when you tell it to, turn wireless on and off, and toggle the Bluetooth switch, said the engineer. Perhaps there’s even more, but that’s all this person was willing to say so far.

The new Siri functionality should make a nifty addition for narcissistic people taking hour-long photo sessions to achieve just the right angle and facial expression for their Facebook profile.
