Sapphire, a supplier of graphics solutions based on AMD technology, has announced the HD 7950 Mac Edition, a brand new graphics card for Mac Pro users based on AMD's latest Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture.

The card has 3 GB of GDDR5 memory and provides hardware support for Open GL 4.2, Open CL 1.2, AMD HD3D technology, and APP acceleration.

Gaming frame rates are said to get a 200% boost, while the general benchmark performance is increased by around 30%.

The SAPPHIRE HD 7950 Mac Edition comes with AMD PowerPlay technology. This enables automatic power management during operation, which ensures low power consumption when idle conditions are met.

The card further boasts two mini DisplayPort outputs with a 3840 x 2160 resolution per display, a 3 GHz HDMI 1.4a port, and a Dual-link DVI port with HDCP (with 2560 x 1600 support).

The 7950 supports dual displays and is compatible with Mac Pro models from 2010 and later with an available PCI-Express x16 slot.

In the box, customers will find two six-pin power cables (required to connect the card), a driver disk to make the card compatible with Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Lion), OS X 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion) or later.
