14 DAY TRIAL // An auction held by Sotheby’s to benefit The Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria has sold, among other things, a Product (RED) Mac Pro co-designed by Jony Ive and Marc Newson, for $977,000 / €721,565.
About a month ago, Jony Ive and Marc Newson started working on a handful of specially-crafted products to donate them to charity.
Sotheby’s took it upon itself to auction the goods, including a pair of Rose Gold Apple Earpods that went for $461,000 (€340,000), a custom Leica Digital Camera that sold for a whopping $1,805,000 (€1,333,000), and a (RED) Desk which one generous buyer took home for $1,685,000 (around 1,244,000).
The Product (RED) Mac Pro, a custom version of Apple’s latest tower Mac which has yet to go on sale, was just shy of a million dollars ($977,000 / €721,565) at the Sotheby’s auction.
