Tired of Finder’s limited interface, even in Mavericks with its cool tags and tabs? Developers Johannes Hoffart and Daniel Baer would like to entice you to download their now-free utility, Punakea.

Acting as a second Finder and complementing OS X’s Spotlight feature, Punakea promises to help you manage files with tags and bookmarks, “freeing you of the strict hierarchy of Finder's folder structure.”

From a visual standpoint, Punakea looks a lot like iTunes. However, unlike iTunes, the multi-pane UI in Punakea does wonders for file management.

According to the listings at AppShopper, this utility normally costs $14.99 / €13.99. Now, you can download Punakea free of charge throughout the holiday season. It supports all Mac configurations (64-bit and 32-bit) and requires OS X 10.6.6 (Snow Leopard) or newer.
