Alex Krasnov’s blocky multiplayer shooter takes the top spot among paid apps

The top paid app on the iTunes App Store (US) this week continues to be Pixlgun 3D, a $0.99 / €0.89 multiplayer shooter inspired by Mojang’s immensely popular Minecraft.

What’s strange is not that Pixlgun 3D has managed to dethrone the all-time reigning champion in paid apps on iTunes, but rather that it took the crown from the very game it was inspired from.

I wouldn’t worry too much for Mojang, though. Their rather expensive Minecraft Pocket Edition has been raking in cash on a regular basis, and it shows no signs of stopping. Chances are Minecraft will be back in the game in no time.

If you’re into pixelated multiplayer shooting fun, go ahead and grab it at the link below, but I would like to note one thing before you run off to check out the game on the App Store.

Pixlgun 3D seems heavily inspired by Minecraft, and the game’s title actually includes both “pocket” and “edition,” two terms that might have helped it climb the ranks based on the popularity of Minecraft Pocket Edition.

I didn’t see anything about Mojang endorsing the game either, so I wouldn’t be too surprised to see it taken down one of these days.
