Bloomberg misquoted a Pegatron executive after an investor conference, resulting in negative rumors and speculation about Apple’s iPad mini. According to the Pegatron boss, the iPad mini is doing fine.

It seems nowadays there’s a trend to release stories about falling demand for Apple products. And while you’d tend to believe the likes of Bloomberg for their generally accurate reporting, this time around they messed up big time.

A reporter for the news agency apparently misquoted Pegatron’s Chief Executive Officer, Jason Cheng, on falling iPad mini demand.

Fortune has obtained a statement from Cheng in which he vehemently denies the Bloomberg report. An excerpt can be found below.

“After the meeting, one reporter from Bloomberg approached me, trying to dig out detail numbers about some specific product. I clearly refused to comment on specific products, nor customers, even though he continued with other questions.”

“I did say those words that he quotes me in the article ‘more on demand, while price has been stable’…, ‘almost every item is moving in a negative direction’…; ‘Not just tablets, also e-books and games consoles.’ But I did not say anything associated with any specific products.”
