Open source virtualization software enters new development branch

Oracle today opened a new development branch of its VirtualBox software inherited from Sun Microsystems in 2010. VirtualBox 4.3.8 RC1 is the first release candidate in the 4.3.8 branch and arrives with a hefty dose of tweaks.

The development starts off with only a handful of new features and a truckload of code corrections and small tweaks.

Notable Windows additions include fixed handle leaks in VBoxTray and fixed crashes while detecting active guest users, while Linux users get support for Enterprise Linux 6.5 kernels and fixed CPU hot-remove on newer kernels.

Only one Mac OS X change is noted: “fixed issue when the application icon was frozen in the dock if the bridging interface was not connected to a network.” We have the full changelog available for your viewing pleasure, along with the download links, below.
