Cobalt, a game about cyborgs, weapons and slow-mo evasive maneuvers, has been released for Mac OS X. Pre-orders are available, and a free alpha build can be downloaded immediately.

Created by Oxeye Game Studio in collaboration with Mojang (the makers of Minecraft), Cobalt is a 2D side-scrolling action game filled with combat rolls, rail slides, rocket punches, and wall jumps.

When your robot is under attack, time slows down, allowing you to pull off some wicked stunts. The game has single-player and co-op modes, as well as local multiplayer with gamepad support.

The game has been available for Windows only, but Minecraft confirms in a blog entry that Cobalt is now released for Mac.

According to Daniel Kaplan, “…the guys have been working hard on putting all them nuts and bolts into the right places and now you can play Cobalt on your Mac! About time some would say, but we are really happy with this.”

Kaplan notes that the level editor “has gotten crazy new features,” but also a lot of bug fixes. They’ve also prepared a video featuring an upcoming adventure mode, which Mojang promises to be “epic.”

Cobalt is available at playcobalt.com. The game is currently in alpha, but you can pre-order right now for €9.95 / $12.95. The alpha version is available as a free download right now.
