New iCloud service to show you what everyone is up to

When iCloud debuts on October 12, Apple will be launching a new service called Find My Friends, which lets you share your location with people who are important to you, as well as to find them.

“Meet up with friends at an outdoor concert. Keep track of the family during a day on the ski slopes. Or see when your out-of-town guest has finally made it past baggage claim,” Apple says.

Friends who share their location with you will appear on a map. You’ll be able to quickly assess where they are and even what is their current activity.

Of course, they’ll have to allow full discoverability for that, and Find My Friends comes with all kinds of settings to ensure that nobody’s privacy is compromised.

“And since Find My Friends works with Contacts and Maps, you can do things like find the quickest route to a surprise party — and avoid running into the birthday girl — all at once,” Apple adds. Read all about it here.
