Incremental update required for October 12 iCloud roll out

It has been revealed that Mac OS X 10.7.2 is a system requirement for iCloud, Apple’s new set of web-based services for Mac and iOS customers. The software update should be available for download as soon as today.

Although the rumored Monday release has been squashed, Apple has no choice but to release OS X 10.7.2 before iCloud launches.

Since both iCloud and iOS 5 are slated for launch tomorrow, and since they’re all tied to Mac OS X 10.7.2 and to one another, the rollout should occur today.

Admittedly, there’s an offset chance the incremental Lion update will be released early tomorrow morning, but Apple never waits until the last minute.

Update: iCloud is now live. Apparently, Cupertino is late in delivering the software requirements for the service.
