Japanese computer hardware vendor Buffalo has announced the DiskStation HD-PATU3, an external hard drive that features high-bandwidth connectors and looks to kill.

Complementing the Mac in every possible way, from function to form, the DiskStation HD-PATU3 boasts USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt, comes in two capacity options – 500 GB and 1 TB – and draws its juice from the ports it’s used with. In short, no AC adapter.

According to its makers, the DiskStation is primarily geared towards the Mac ecosystem, as it arrives pre-formatted to the HFS+ file-system. But, as any external storage solution out there, it can be used on Windows machines just as well, as long as the user erases it using the NTFS / FAT spec.

Pricing is yet to be revealed.
