A new release candidate of LibreOffice 4.2.0 is available for testing purposes, with the final / stable version coming out at a later time, despite its being planned for release yesterday.

LibreOffice is a full-featured desktop productivity suite featuring apps like Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw, Base, and Math. Notably, Impress allows users to create cool multimedia presentations, while Math is a simple equation editor that lets you lay out and display your equations.

Draw lets you build diagrams and sketches, and Calc offers charts and analysis tools. Base is the database frontend of LibreOffice, and Writer (as its name implies) is the suite’s word processor.

According to the LibreOffice 4.2.0 development schedule, The Document Foundation was supposed to release only three release candidate builds, followed by the stable version on January 27.

As it turned out, LibreOffice 4.2.0 RC4 was rolled out instead. The team likely encountered some last-minute bugs, forcing the schedule to be extended.
