Owners of an iPhone or iPad reading their e-books on the Amazon Kindle application have a new update to install which includes several enhancements, including an X-Ray feature for Textbooks that offers access to important terms and concepts in a book.

The Kindle iOS app is now at version 3.4 and includes a new font choice (Caecilia), and a Publisher Font feature that lets you read the book in the font suggested by the publisher itself.

Japanese is now supported, complete with vertical text and Manga, and there’s a new X-Ray function for Textbooks that provides “instant access to all the most important terms and concepts in a book, with glossary definitions, links to relevant textbook pages, and related content from Wikipedia and YouTube (available on many of the most popular print replica textbooks).”

The app is compatible with all iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad models that support iOS 5.
