Australian low-cost airline Jetstar is rolling out iPads on board, becoming the world’s first to offer tailored technology for the device, with the purpose of enhancing in-flight entertainment.

The tailored software, as Jetstar puts it, allows passengers to watch the latest release movies, TV  shows and music from Hollywood, a line-up of the latest games, e-magazines and e-books (hopefully the Steve Jobs bio too), “all-enhanced by a high resolution screen and premium sound system of the iPad.”

Well, I think it’s safe to say the content was already enhanced for the tablet. And the sound system is just a tiny speaker, really. But they’re very enthusiastic about it, I'll grant them that.

The tablets are being deployed on select Jetstar flights today and will soon be rolled out across more services. Oh and, if you’re flying longer than two hours, you’ll be given the option to “hire” an iPad from $10-$15 (AU) per flight.
