Men and women can use the app to sustain a happy marriage

Furniture retailer IKEA is refreshing its iOS portfolio this week with a brand new app that promises to improve your marriage. The company has come up with its own emoticons and created a keyboard app around them, to help spouses communicate much better.

It’s more of a marketing stunt than anything, but I’m pretty sure at least some couples will find it to be tons of fun. I especially like the funny commercial published by IKEA to promote the software.

The description says, “Men and women have always found difficulty in communication. In the home situation misunderstandings occur most around clutter. And that is why IKEA introduces Emoticons: a communication tool to ensure universal love and understanding in your home. All your hints, desires and questions will be understood right away.”

The way IKEA puts it, Emoticons is actually a great way to eliminate quarrels in situations where the wife has left her shoes in the husband’s private space / the husband made a mess in the kitchen, etc. There’s even a set of emoticons that can be used for kinky messages, as shown in the quirky ad.

There’s one problem with it, though. You have to actually hit Paste and then Send to have the emoticon sent over to your recipient, and it’s not even an emoticon per se, but rather an image.

We seriously hope IKEA considers retouching its keyboard app. Since it’s meant to support iOS 8, I can’t imagine any hardware limitations preventing it from working like a regular keyboard. Download IKEA Emoticons for your iDevice right now and give it a go.
