GameStop, the world’s largest video-games multichannel retailer, has seen “strong consumer enthusiasm” for its trade-in program announced in September, ahead of the iPhone 4S launch.

In the months since GameStop began accepting trades on the iPod, iPhone and iPad, the retailer saw that many customers were taking advantage of this new option to cash in and buy something new.

People used store credit to pay for stuff like video games, consoles, pre-owned gaming tablets, and all kinds of other mobile devices.

GameStop president Tony Bartel said, “The velocity of this trade program has exceeded our expectations. We expect to see strong post-holiday traffic as customers trade in older models that were replaced by gifts.”
