App disguises as earthquake browser but contains GBA interface via secret command

Developer Kalana Jayatilake has managed to sneak a GBA emulator past Apple’s iTunes Review team. His Earthquake 7 app can run GameBoy ROMs via the iTunes file sharing feature.

Earthquake 7 (iTunes link) sells for $1.99 (€1.47), which is a lot for an earthquake alert app. But don’t worry, there’s more than meets the eye. Much more, actually.

According to reports, if you type “gba activate 638” into the search bar, a GameBoy emulator interface pops up which allows you to load ROMs (game files) and party like it’s 1999. Literally.

The ROMs you’ll have to source for yourself, and you can easily feed them to the app via iTunes file sharing.

As usual, Apple will probably pull this app when it learns that it goes against the App Store Review Guidelines, but for now it’s still available for download at the time of this writing.
