“A dedicated space for you and your groups”

Facebook is further breaking down its service into smaller pieces, this time introducing an exclusive iPhone app for group activities.

As its name implies, Facebook Groups is all about the parties you like to hang out with, virtually, on the social network.

The official description says that you can “See all of your Facebook groups in one place. Discuss, plan and collaborate easily and without distractions. Follow your groups here or on Facebook, whichever is easier for you.”

We tested the thing and it’s surprisingly well designed and easy to use. We expected Facebook to have ruined a good service yet again, but this time it has actually done good. You now have a dedicated app to create a group for anything, share information, make posts with photos and links, stay in touch with your closest friends and your family at all times, and even discover and join new groups via the search function.

In fact, joining new random groups could easily be the best feature this app has to offer for bored types.

The social network says that Facebook Groups is also ideal for teams looking to post updates and schedules, for neighbourhoods (Facebook’s example is to “borrow tools, share local news”), as well as for collaboration and note distribution at school and at work. Download Facebook Groups now on your iPhone and give it a go. It requires iOS 7.0 and doesn’t support iPads natively.
