If you’re looking for the easiest to way to get up and running with Microsoft’s all-new Windows 8.1, there’s an app for that. OK, so maybe that phrase doesn’t go so well with PC software, but you can always have the best of both worlds.

Enter VMWare Fusion 6.0.2 Build 1398658, the latest version of the powerful virtualization software from VMware Inc., which puts Windows on your Mac, side by side with OS X.

The new build offers improved support for OS X Mavericks, including indexing of Finder tags, improved drag-and-drop to OS X guests, improved handling of the menu-bar and multiple displays in Unity mode, and better support for Recovery Partition with an OS X Mavericks guest.

But you don’t care about that if you’re out to install Windows 8.1. Which is why the changelog also includes this very cheerful line: “Easy Install support for final versions of Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2.”

Also new in this update, performance has been improved when opening VMware Fusion, and a ton of fixes have been scattered around.

As an existing user, you can download VMware Fusion 6.0.2 as a free update. Newcomers will pay around $70/€50 for one user license.
