Microsoft has released an updated version of its Windows Phone management software for OS X customers, adding support for Windows Phone 8 installations and several other goodies.

Released with a simplified interface that blends well with OS X, Windows Phone 3.0 delivers support for smartphones equipped with the Windows Phone 8 operating system.

You can now drag and drop files between Windows Phone and your Mac desktop, as well as drag and drop files from Finder to your Windows Phone 8 devices.

Support for iPhoto 9.3.2 and Aperture 3.3.2 is now enabled, meaning you can use those two apps to sync photos up to your Windows Phone device. Furthermore, you can see the battery charge state on Windows Phone 8 devices.

Also exclusive to Windows Phone 8 users, the app boasts “enhanced capability support for ringtone files.”

Last (but certainly not least as far as new-generation Macs are concerned), Windows Phone 3.0 supports Retina display Macs.
