Microsoft is out with a new version of Skype for Mac, adding a new search experience and a bunch of fixes.

According to Aga Guzik writing on the official Skype Blog, “Search in Skype for Mac has been completely overhauled.”

Users can now find conversations easier by just entering a term in the search field. The returned result will be a menu of the most relevant conversations, according to the Head of Desktop Product Marketing at Skype. The Search Messages action item can also be used to explore the conversation history.

Three issues have been addressed in the new version, including a bug causing Skype to hang when closing the app during an active call, one preventing users from hanging up with Shift+Command+H after Skype restarts, as well as a Conversations issue where messages sent to a Facebook contact got duplicated.

As usual, some known issues remain in the new build. For example, on OS X Lion, the communications app sometimes crashes when clicking on profile pictures or file transfer icons.
