Shazam 6.2.1 is out for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, delivering much improved song recognition with noticeable improvements on old-generation hardware, including the iPhone 3GS.

Updated minutes ago, both the free version of the app as well as Shazam Encore are getting the same set of enhancements. According to Shazam Entertainment Ltd., the new version brings “much faster recognition, especially on the iPhone 4 and 3GS,” as well as better song recognition in “difficult environments.”

In other words, Shazam’s recognition algorithms have been tweaked to better distinguish an actual song from the noise around the speakers.

Users who tweet their Shazam activity will offer their followers the ability to play previews right in Twitter through Twitter Card, and exploring charts is more dynamic, “showing you what's hot in the last seven days,” says the development team. Lastly, US customers get new TV experiences.
