Minecraft, the insanely popular building puzzler from Mojang, is getting a fresh update shortly. But the developers are so excited about these changes that they’ve already released them in the wild in Minecraft 1.4.3 Pre.

A less stable release, Minecraft 1.4.3 Pre packs so many changes and enhancements that you won’t know where to start. And neither do we, so here’s a bunch of highlights.

In the Minecraft ore, emerald can be broken with a minimum iron pickaxe. However, the block emerald can be broken with all the pickaxes. Enchanted items now show the background on the beacon-block, and the sound should be improved too.

Skeletons holding swords will shoot arrows that do not stick (and stay) in mobs.

Items dropped drop into transparent blocks cannot be picked up, and using /tp on a player in a different world will teleport them to the needed coordinates, but won’t change the world. For the rest of the enhancements and fixes, visit the official changelog.
