Microsoft has released an OS X-native Remote Desktop client for Mac users, following a similar release for iOS customers last week, allowing users of an Apple computer to control a Windows 8 environment remotely, using a Mac.

Available as a free download from the Mac App Store, Microsoft Remote Desktop for OS X requires Snow Leopard to run and allows you to “Experience the power of Windows with RemoteFX in a Remote Desktop client designed to help you get your work done wherever you are.”

Users can access remote resources through the Remote Desktop Gateway, access data and applications securely (thanks to Network Layer Authentication), manage all remote connections, stream video and audio, use multiple monitors, print from Windows applications to any printer configured on a Mac, and access local files on a Mac from Windows applications.
