Microsoft has released a big update for users of Office 2011 for Mac, delivering improvements for Outlook, Exchange, and Word. Outlook users in particular will be very pleased with this new version.

Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac v14.3.9 defaults newly configured Yahoo! Mail and Outlook.com accounts to IMAP (instead of POP). Issues with read receipts are fixed in Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, Exchange Server 2010, Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 3, and Microsoft Exchange Online in Microsoft Office 365.

Conversation threading in Outlook is addressed, and the ability to connect to Exchange has been improved.

According to Microsoft, “This update fixes an issue that causes Outlook for Mac not to connect to Exchange when Outlook uses certain proxy servers.” MS Word users experiencing crashes when starting Polish Microsoft Word 2011 on OS X Mavericks are encouraged to update to address this issue.

Existing users can download Microsoft Office 2011 v14.3.9 free of charge, while newcomers can also download the suite and test it out in trial mode for 30 days.
